Environmental Compliance Manager

Our client is a leading Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) Processor and also a leader in the quest for a zero-waste economy.
A vacancy currently exists for an experienced Environmental Compliance Manager to assume full responsibility for ensuring that all of the company’s four permitted processing facilities in the South/South East continue to comply with relevant environmental legislation and best practice.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, laws, and site environmental permits.
* Develop, implement, and update environmental compliance plans in accordance with prevailing legislation, organisational policies and procedures.
* Monitor and report on the progress of environmental compliance.
* Analyse the potential environmental impacts of various projects and activities.
* Identify areas of non-compliance and develop strategies to rectify them.
* Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders including government agencies, regulatory bodies, and local communities.
* Lead environmental audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.
* Lead on environmental accreditation.
* Assume responsibility for EA waste returns.
* Stay up to date with relevant environmental legislation and standards.
* Provide advice and assistance to management on environmental compliance matters.
* Manage and coordinate waste management programs, including waste classification and disposal.
* Prepare monthly environmental board reports on environmental performance.
* Investigate and respond to complaints of non-compliance.
* Train personnel in environmental compliance matters and best practices.
* Support sustainability initiatives and advise on green technology solutions.
Candidate requirements:
* Relevant environmental degree.
* At least 3-5 years’ experience working in the environment, regulatory and/or waste sectors.
* Excellent understanding of Environmental Permitting and Duty of Care regulations.
* Experience of waste classification technical guidance (WM3).
* Ability to identify and analyse environmental compliance issues.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
* Proven ability to develop, maintain and implement environmental policies, procedures and systems.
* Ability to develop, review and interpret technical reports.
* Knowledge of environmental risk assessment methods and techniques.
* Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.
* Ability to develop and implement an effective environmental audit program.
* Knowledge of non-hazardous and hazardous waste management practices and procedures.
* Proficiency in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Office, GIS, and database management systems.
