Kitchen Assistant / Part-Time Cook

KITCHEN ASSISTANT / COOK – WEST MALLING – PART TIME – 22.5 HRS PW

We are looking for an experienced KITCHEN ASSISTANT / PART TIME COOK to assist in the kitchen of St Mary’s Abbey, West Malling, Kent.

SALARY: £12.00 per hour plus non-contributory pension

HOURS: MATERNITY COVER: Initial 9-12month fixed term contract.

PART TIME: 22½ hours per week. Monday to Friday. 2.00pm – 6.30pm.

You will be assisting with the preparation and cooking of simple, nutritional meals for members of the community consisting of 10-12 as well as catering for special events and assisting with the following duties:

* Seasonal tasks; making preserves, freezing fruit and vegetables; preparing special food for festivals.

* Baking bread, rolls, cakes or biscuits for the community and guests.

* Washing up and cleaning the food preparation equipment and kitchen tools thoroughly and in a timely manner.

* Cleaning the kitchen and floor on a daily basis to meet hygiene standards and Health & Safety guidelines.

* Receiving deliveries as required.

* Ad hoc duties as reasonably required.

You will ideally have previous experience of working in a kitchen environment, happy to use your own initiative, able to multi-task, respond calmly and professionally to needs as they present themselves.

You will have a good understanding of Food Hygiene, possibly a Level 2 Hygiene certificate, knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within a kitchen environment, a real passion for cooking and a conscientious approach to preparing food.
