Purpose of the Job
1. Designing and commissioning new rigs and ancillary test systems. Including the ability to conceptualise, scheme and design test systems; and subsystems at electrical and mechanical level
2. Looking at current and future test requirements and assessing the test systems to ensure that testing needs can be met.
3. Ability to research and support development function with test suites and / or procedures to aid internal product development and verification.
4. Understanding and developing the Test control strategy and understanding how to implement these strategies against the test aims.
Main duties to be carried out
1. Working to optimise and standardise test rig setup for instrumentation and communication.
2. Optimising and driving Test control and data acquisition system setup and operation across the Test function, including working with systems suppliers of Test Equipment.
3. Providing training / mentoring of Test staff to keep up-to-date on all equipment and processes.
4. Understanding and developing the Test rigs and ancillary systems.
5. Building Test tools to enhance the Test by improving function, reliability, safety, cost and efficiency.
6. Owning and Driving the H&S requirements for the operation of the test cells.
7. Attending project planning meetings.
8. Being able to follow internal standards and procedures including quality related requirements.
9. Working with external test houses to supplement testing for niche testing requirements.
Qualifications and Experience required
1. Good knowledge and experience of powertrain systems.
2. Experience in the powertrain testing environment.
3. Degree level education in relevant engineering discipline.
4. Knowledge of Variable Speed Drives and Battery Test Simulator systems.
5. Knowledge of Power Analysers and efficiency measurement.
6. Expertise on powertrain testing.
7. Knowledge of common EV DC Inverter systems and communications protocols.
8. Previous experience within an powertrain test environment.
9. Experience with originating Quality, H&S and SOP document
