We are working with a fast growing business who are developing and commercialising an energy storage technology that could completely reshape the way we think about multi-hour storage. Storing electricity in the form of heat and compressed air, the technology draws on existing hardware together with some smart engineering thinking to deliver reliable, scalable and affordable energy storage much more sustainably than existing battery solutions.
The business now requires a Build Technician who will play a pivotal role in building and testing the next generation of sub-systems and systems. This is a ‘hands-on’ workshop role where the successful candidate will be assembling and testing complex mechanical assemblies. There will also be an element of site installation work from time to time.
There will be close liaison with the project and design teams to report any build issues or suggestions for improvement.
You will be expected to be diligent and responsible for the quality of your own work, you will also be expected to have input into the project timing and key deliverables.
You must have a good understanding of workshop safety & 5S disciplines.
Key activities
Workshop builds & testing:
• Read and adhere to engineering drawings and work instructions.
• Assemble sub-assemblies and assemblies in line with the above.
• Assist in problem diagnosis and solving.
• Use the appropriate tools & equipment safely and effectively.
• Suggest areas for process improvements.
• Measure components and features using appropriate workshop measuring equipment.
• Set assemblies up in test equipment ready for durability testing.
• Help in the creation of risk assessments.
• Follow good workshop practices including 5S standards.
Skills and Experience
In order to succeed in this role, the Build Technician will need the following skills and experience.
• ‘Hands-on’ experience of building complex mechanical assemblies is essential, experience of building IC engines will be a distinct advantage.
• The ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• A high level of competence in the use of a variety of measuring equipment.
• A good understanding of engineering ‘best practices’.
• Excellent teamworking and communication skills.
• Experience with basic workshop machine tools i.e. lathes, vertical milling machines, etc for carrying out rectifications / modifications.
• Experience of setting up durability tests
