Mencap are recruiting for a Learning Disability and Family Caseworker (LDFC) to join our Information and Advice Service. This role will be home based with travel to various casework locations and occasional travel to our Peterborough office. This role is permanent, working full time (37.5 hours a week).
 
Mencap is committed to providing good quality information and advice to people with a learning disability, their families and carers, and professionals working with them. The LDFC will be a key part in making this happen.
 
The successful LDFC will have experience of working in an advice with casework service, and will be required to give advice to people with a learning disability and their families, coordinating their journey through Mencap and with external partners. The role requires experience and knowledge of how to advise and support families through key points in their loved ones journeys, for example with support in schools or accessing healthcare, and sadly, when a person with a learning disability has passed away in avoidable circumstances.
 
Ideally you will have knowledge of working with a CRM system to keep advice records, and will be competent in Microsoft Office tools. I.T skills are required for this role, as is a thorough understanding of learning disability and the challenges people and their families face.
 
Key skills for this role are:
Level 3 qualification in giving advice or an equivalent relevant qualification.
Strong communicator with analytical skills.
Well developed listening and diagnostic skills.
Personal resilience and the ability to sensitively navigate upsetting situations.
Knowledge of social care issues and learning disability.
Demonstrable experience of working with families to achieve outcomes.
