As a Junior Legal Cashier, you will play a crucial role in managing the firm's financial transactions and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Building on your foundational knowledge, you will take on more responsibilities and contribute to the efficient operation of our finance department.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Transactions

You will assist in ensuring the firm’s financial affairs run smoothly and efficiently. This includes:

* Processing Financial Transactions: Handling client payments, billings, and expenses with minimal supervision.

* Utilising Accounting Software: Proficiently using accounting software and systems to record and manage financial data accurately.

* Bank Account Reconciliation: Reconciling bank accounts and ensuring all transactions are documented and accounted for.

* Handling Payments: Posting incoming monies, issuing cheques, BACS/CHAPS payments, and processing card payments over the telephone.

* Petty Cash Management: Reviewing and reconciling petty cash.

Client Account Management

You will maintain excellent relationships with clients by:

* Compliance with SRA Rules: Managing client bank accounts in compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) rules and regulations.

* Processing Client Funds: Ensuring accuracy and compliance in processing client funds and transactions.

* Monitoring Client Balances: Monitoring and reconciling client ledger balances, escalating issues as necessary.

Billing and Invoicing

You will support effective billing and invoicing practices to maintain cash flow and client satisfaction:

* Preparing Invoices: Preparing and issuing client bills and invoices, ensuring accuracy and adherence to billing guidelines.

* Reviewing Billing Records: Ensuring client invoices are prepared correctly and in a timely manner.

* Tracking Billable Hours: Assisting lawyers in tracking billable hours and expenses associated with client matters.

Cash Handling and Banking

You will support exceptional cash management and banking services:

* Cash Flow Management: Processing receipts, payments, and banking transactions.

* Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with SRA, money laundering, and VAT regulations.

* Cash Transactions: Recording and reconciling cash transactions for accuracy and compliance.

* Cash Flow Forecasting: Monitoring and forecasting cash flow to support the firm's financial operations.

Financial Reporting

You will assist in the production of accurate financial reports:

* Preparing Reports: Preparing financial reports and statements for internal and external stakeholders.

* Data Analysis: Analysing financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.

* Using Reporting Tools: Utilizing financial reporting tools and software to generate reports and analyses.

Administrative and Clerical Tasks

You will perform administrative and clerical tasks to a high standard:

* General Administrative Support: Providing support to the finance department, including filing, data entry, and document management.

* Maintaining Financial Records: Ensuring financial records and documentation are organized and up-to-date.

* Time Management: Prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines and responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills:

* Education: A degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is preferred.

* Experience: Previous experience in a finance-related role, preferably within a legal environment.

* Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

* Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial transactions and reporting.

* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

* Regulatory Knowledge: Basic understanding of SRA rules and regulations is an advantage.
