Operations Controller/Transport Planner

Salary + on call allowance (every other week) worth circa £3,000 a year + life assurance + Westfield Health Insurance + 25 days holiday + bank holidays + retail discount portal

We are looking for a Transport Planner (called Operations Controller internally) based at our depot in Warrington to manage and plan our team of Specialist Vehicles driver/operators.

Your role involves managing and planning for Drivers/IPAF Operators across the Midlands & North West. The role is very fast paced, and requires someone who is confident managing people, with strong attention to detail when it comes to compliance processes and H&S protocols. 

If you enjoy variety and have experience of planning the day of Drivers/Operators by using planning tools coupled with people management, compliance and customer management skills, then this role could be for you.

The Transport Planner role requires a degree of flexibility with working hours, but is predominately 08.00 - 17.30, Monday to Friday. After your training period you would go on to an on-call rota every other week.

Responsibilities include: -

Schedule drivers/operators using appropriate tools to maximise efficiency, control costs and meet agreed SLAs/KPIs.

Manage external resource levels to ensure that customer demand, collections and haulage recovery and operator costs are balanced.

Manage disputes & complaints through resolution or escalation.

Deal with all sales and customer service queries efficiently and cost effectively.

Ensure the accuracy of information entered to minimise disputes and maximise business efficiency.

Ensure movement of kit is organised to other geographical areas if required prior to hires.

Manage resources within department to ensure they are utilised in an effective manner.

Direct, develop, motivate and support all direct reports ensuring that the business objectives are met to agreed timescale.

Ensure all departmental costs are controlled in line with budget.

Ensure that all administration tasks and processes are accurate and kept up to date.

Ensure compliance to legislative requirements and internal quality, health, safety and environmental policies and standards.

Contribute to overall business targets and comply with company standards.

About you: -

Proven track record of transport planning, supervising drivers, monitoring compliance & coaching on best practice.

Strong knowledge of the road network and geography across the Midlands & North West 

Demonstrable ability to work at pace, juggle multiple conflicting priorities and solve problems.

Able to establish credibility and be decisive.

You work collegiately with the team to provide great customer service.

Able to create, build and produce accurate and professional reports based on the performance of all direct reports and department.
