Job Summary: Our client, a leading consultancy specializing in sustainable development solutions, seeks a Principal/Associate Flood Risk and Drainage Designer. The role involves understanding the legislative background related to flood risk and drainage, planning, undertaking detailed design, and managing the design process. The individual will supervise a small team of engineers delivering Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and detail design of foul and surface water Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). Experience in delivering flood alleviation schemes for public and private sector clients is essential.

Principal Accountabilities: The role requires a minimum of 8 to 10 years' experience with day-to-day supervision of a small team of engineers, preparation of fee proposals, and managing the financial and technical aspects of projects. Responsibilities include preparing FRAs, conceptual and detailed design of flood protection measures and drainage strategies, leading to planning applications or construction drawings. Mentorship of junior engineers and client interaction are expected. Experience in flood alleviation schemes, foul and surface water/SuDS drainage systems, and proficiency in WinDES, InfoDrainage, and Flow software is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications/Education: Candidates should hold a degree in Civil Engineering or appropriate science, or equivalent commercial experience. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with MICE or CIWEM, or equivalent commercial experience is preferred.

Preferred Competencies/Skills:

Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments in Flood Zone 1, 2, and 3
Conceptual and detail design of surface water flood alleviation works
Preparation of complex foul and surface water drainage strategies and detail design
Expert knowledge of WinDES, InfoDrainage, and Flow software
Preparation of water chapters for Environmental Statements
Project Management
Strong written and spoken communication skills
Ability to work as part of a teamKnowledge: Ideal candidates should have a solid understanding of the planning system and current policy and design guidance including NPPF, PPG, FWMA 2010, WIA 1991, LDA 1991, SuDS Manual, and Sewers for Adoption/Design and Construction Guidance.

Previous Experience: Experience in consultancy with a focus on private sector work is preferred.
