Location Treforest (Then Newport)

Salary - £12.50 per hour

Full time Mon – Thurs 08.00 – 16.30 Fri 07.00 – 12.00

Job description

To set-up & operate production machines / equipment / processes in a safe, efficient & effective manner with Engineering support. Ensuring product produced is to the set quality standard & manufactured at the set production rate.

Essential Job Functions/ Responsibilities

Run a range of production machines / processes to produce products to the quality standards required & achieve out-put standards set

Apply best practice standards in all areas of H&S, quality produced, standard operating procedures (SOP’s) & data recording

Demonstrate good house keeping

Ensure PPE is maintained & used as prescribed

Create & maintain accurate records relating to machine out-puts & down time. Ensure all paperwork including start-up check sheets are completed daily

Actively support Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) & all assigned (Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) required

Assist with Risk Assessments & all safety improvement activities

Actively participate in all continuous improvement activities / initiatives & Kaisen events. Proactively identify & make recommendations for improvements

Train other operators as required.

Sharing experience, best practice, relaying all relevant knowledge & information with colleagues

Carry out hand assembly work & general duties as required

Any other duties as required by the Production Manager

Qualifications - Minimum

Good standard of Education

Good standard of written English & Math’s

Good communication skill & attitude

Understand & use of measuring equipment – ruler, scales etc.

Qualification – Desirable

Time served machine operator

Knowledge / experience of mechanical / electrical PLC & Pneumatic systems

Experience in lean manufacturing / continuous improvement techniques & tools 5s, Kaisen etc.

Machine setting experience

Experience of statistical process control (SPC)

Minimum skill requirements

Experience in a manufacturing environment

Broad knowledge of equipment types: -packaging & processing

Awareness of modern technology

Good communication skills & attitude

Team player

Flexible – able to work shifts & cover over time when required

Competent & self-motivated

Other Skills/Abilities Desirable

Awareness & experience of modern improvement tools & techniques

Data handling / PC skills

Able to work under pressure to achieve tight delivery schedules
