Description/Job Summary
SUMMARY
Processes the paperwork needed to legally transfer the ownership of vehicles the dealership sells or courtesy delivers.
Responsibilities/Duties
Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Processes all new, used, and courtesy vehicle title paperwork for registration in the state and county in which they will be titled.
Prepares tax and title documents.
Submits all legal transfer work to the appropriate county tax office.
Checks for accuracy in the application and ensures that all information is complete.
Maintains a system to verify out-of state titles.
Reports to the office manager or comptroller on the status of any missing or problem titles. If possible, corrects errors and resubmits title paperwork.
Signs over titles for all wholesalers who have paid in full.
Stays abreast of title regulations. Attends seminars held by local licensing bureaus and any available training on title regulations.
Cross-trains others to handle title clerk daily responsibilities.
Issues a written memo to sales managers and finance manager whenever regulations change.
Compiles and maintains a complete list of all outstanding title work.
Reviews accounting schedules and creates journal entries as needed.
Assists with checking deals as needed.
Keeps work area organized, neat, and clean.
Maintains a professional appearance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract six digit numbers and to multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals on an adding machine. Ability to compute percentage rates on an adding machine.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to pay close attention to detail when conducting all essential duties.
Required Experience
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year related experience titling for an automotive dealership. Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook. Comprehends basic accounting principles of credits and debits.
