The Client:

One of the UK’s largest privately owned main contracting businesses, delivering design & build, refurbishments, fit-outs and technical engineering projects across the country, this business has been developing its reputation through high-quality delivery, achieved through hard work, integrity and an unrivalled technical expertise in the sector.

The Role:

As Quantity Surveyor, you’ll have overall financial responsibility for an exciting base of projects assigned to you across the company’s key retail projects. You’ll ensure effective cost management, support delivery on key contractual issues, operate as a focal point for the business facing clients and external consultants and will ensure, through accurate forecasting and cost/value reporting, the profitability of the works you oversee.

To note; remote/hybrid working is offered, however your project base may contain works across the country and site visits will be required.

Responsibilities:

* Prepare detailed breakdown of build costs for each stage of work across a project base primarily encompassing the retail and superstore sector, ranging from small works to projects up to £15m in value.

* Forecast, monitor and maintain cash flow to ensure margins are maintained and projects remain profitable.

* Keep on top of all variations in work and ensure they are accounted for, with autonomy on decision making as to how best to handle these.

* Be aware of, assist with and take the lead on key contractual issues that affect works and negotiate in the best interests of the business where needs arise.

* Procurement of sub-contract works including documentation and compliance in line with project programme. Managing them through to final accounts.

* Attend and chair regular project meetings with delivery team, senior management and external consultants.

* Effective communication across all levels with clients, suppliers, external consultants and colleagues through to senior management.

Qualifications & Experience

* A relevant Construction related Degree or equivalent Higher Education course, ideally Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Construction Management.

* Previous experience within the industry in a main contracting environment is critical. Relevant project experience is desirable but not essential for the right candidate.

* Ability to work under tight deadlines and deliver high-quality work.

* Proven longevity with an established main contractor.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
