Business architecture structures the enterprise in terms of its governance structure, business processes, and business information. They align strategic goals and objectives with decisions regarding products and services; partners and suppliers; organisation; capabilities; and key business and IT initiatives. The Business Architect works to develop an integrated view of the enterprise using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry standard techniques.

As a Business Architect, you will play a crucial role in guiding and shaping the transformation of an organisation. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, design target operating models, develop strategic roadmaps, and analyse requirements.  Your work will bridge the gap between business needs and technology solutions, ensuring both are in sync and contribute to organisational success.

The role holder:

Supports the IT and business resources to meet specific business objectives whilst maintaining the principles of professional standards, accountability, openness, equality and diversity and clarity of purpose. Takes responsibility for review of management processes (and decisions) to ensure that they are compliant with the organisation's strategy for corporate governance of IT.
Collaborate with senior leadership to understand strategic goals and objectives.
Conduct analysis of the current state of the business and identify areas for improvement.
Develop target operating models, business capabilities, and roadmaps to achieve strategic objectives.

The role holder:

Business Architecture Development and Governance:

Lead the development and maintenance of the business architecture framework, incorporating business processes, capabilities, and business information assets.
Work with the wider Air Sector Business Architect Lead to define and govern business architecture standards and principles to guide all IT projects and initiatives.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions aligned with the enterprise architecture and business goals.

Strategic Planning and Alignment:

Translate business strategies and objectives into actionable architecture roadmap and implementation plans.
Conduct business capability assessments and identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural decisions support business needs and drive value.
Capture the tactical and strategic goals that provide traceability and are mapped to metrics that provide ongoing governance

Process and Change Management:

Identify and analyse business processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
Design and implement optimised business processes and workflows aligned with the enterprise architecture.
Lead and manage change initiatives related to architecture implementation and adoption.

Communication and Collaboration:

Effectively communicate complex architectural concepts to stakeholders at all levels, including executives, business leaders, and IT teams.
Foster collaboration and build strong relationships with internal and external partners.
Advocate for the value of enterprise architecture and its role in achieving organisational goals.

Leadership Responsibilities

Is generally working to SFIA level 5 with some 6.
Stakeholder management – influences local organisation, customers, supplier, partners and peers
Takes on a lead role; owns specific work areas and coaches others.
Will support the development of the Business Architecture capability
Represent the enterprise architecture function on executive committees and strategic planning initiatives.
Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the Business architecture domain.

Competencies

Knowledge:

Experience of Business Analysis (refereable)
Strong understanding of Architectural transformation frameworks, e.g. TOGAF or Zachman
Understanding or experience with Enterprise modelling toolsets
Strategic planning and change management methodologies
Enterprise technology landscape and emerging trends
Governance and compliance requirements
Skills:

Information Management - Planning, implementing and controlling the full life cycle management of digitally organised information and records.
Business process improvement - Creating new and potentially disruptive approaches to performing business activities.
Enterprise and business architecture - Aligning an organisation's technology strategy with its business mission, strategy, and processes and documenting this using architectural models.
Requirements definition and management - Managing requirements through the entire delivery and operational life cycle.
Business modelling - Producing abstract or distilled representations of real-world, business or gaming situations.
Strategic Planning - Creating and maintaining a strategy to align organisational actions, plans and resources with business objectives.
Feasibility assessment - Defining, evaluating and describing business change options for financial, technical and business feasibility, and strategic alignment.
Sustainability - Providing advice, assistance and leadership to enable the organisation to minimise negative environmental impact.
Knowledge management - Managing vital knowledge to create value for the organisation.
Stakeholder Management – Ability to engage and communicate with senior stakehodlers and build professional relationships.

Qualifications:

Relevant Business Architecture qualifications, e.g. ToGAF
10+ years of demonstrable experience in business architecture or related roles
Experience working in complex, enterprise environments
Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering architecture initiatives
