ROLE PURPOSE Mainly responsible for overseeing the timely collection, management, reporting and sharing of all forms of surface and groundwater data with the 'Design Joint Venture' (DJV) organisations, and the Companys internal consent and environment teams for informed decision making. The role also requires internal day to day problem solving regarding water management in construction, ensuring compliance with the consents granted by the EA, and management/ maintenance of the Company's water monitoring network.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Supporting consent applications:
o Selection and provision of water quality, flow and level data from the groundwater and surface water monitoring networks appropriate to the construction works being consented. Providing technical scrutiny, interpretation and subsequent presentation to both non-technical (consents and delivery teams) and technical audiences (submission to the Environment Agency).
o Producing and reviewing construction phase groundwater risk assessments and Water Monitoring Plans (supported by the Company's sub-consultants) to assess potential risks to water resources associated with the construction of various HS2 railway assets.
o Management of sub-consultants in the production of H1 risk assessments required for construction discharges to surface waters serving as a link between these assessments and the consents teams by reviewing of the final reports to ensure that the H1 reflects the proposed construction/ dewatering works.
* Ensuring compliance with issued consents:
o Management/ instruction/ liaison with the Company's groundwater monitoring contractor and sublot environment teams to ensure that the necessary compliance groundwater/surface water data is collected and manged for reporting purposes.
o Liaising with sub-consultants on the production and submission of consent condition reports, reviewing and approving the reports ready for submission to the Environment Agency.
* Day to day management tasks:
o Identifying, scoping and instructing works for the extension of the Company's groundwater monitoring well network and installation of additional stilling wells, collection of surface water data and visual checks of gauge boards by the environment teams to support construction works, consent, and Environment Agency requirements.
o Liaison with delivery teams to facilitate drillers for monitoring well installation where required.
o Reviewing groundwater and surface water quality data to ensure consent compliance and identify/investigate any anomalous results.
o Reviewing surface water monitoring data collected specifically to resolve concerns related to quality issue that have arisen during the construction process and develop solutions/engage with the Environment Agency as required.

* Quality assurance: A key part of the role is to represent the Company in discussions with their DJV Partner organisations and provide technical assurance of works/ assessments in matters including:
o GW pumping tests.
o GW recharge tests.
o Water Framework Directive (experience of WFD assessment and legislation is highly desirable).
o Environment Agency and HS2 discussions/ engagement, ensuring the Company is represented in all discussions alongside technical DJV colleagues.
* Data management:
o Overseeing the QA and scrutiny of data collected for hand over to DJV to support the design/ assessment works. And packaging data for submission to HS2 and the Environment Agency, as required, in accordance with HS2 data specification (experience of data management in. ags format is desirable).

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA
REQUIRED
* BSc or MSc in hydrogeology or equivalent
* Highly motivated senior hydrogeologist with extensive experience in water resources to lead their internal Water Team working on the HS2 contract.
* Extensive working knowledge with Environment Agency
* Track record of managing subcontractors and developing a water team
