Job Role- MOT Tester- Taxi & Private Hire Licensing
Job Purpose & Context:
The Taxi & Private Hire Licensing Section is responsible for the licensing, inspection and supervision of taxis and private hire drivers and their vehicles. We also process applications for operators and drivers, testing drivers and vehicles, and enforce compliance on the street. In addition, the Section also has responsibilities for monitoring and checking Council fleet vehicles and contractor vehicles to ensure that they are operating in accordance with the Council's policy and contracts in respect of the Social Services and Education ‘Permit’ schemes.
Accountabilities:
* Carry out full Vehicle Inspections and tests in accordance with the schedule of testing requirements, Council's conditions and criteria, and construction and use regulations.
* Carrying out on street inspection of vehicles, drivers, ranks and operator premises to ensure compliance with legal requirements and licence conditions.
* Carrying out roadside vehicle general safety Inspections in conjunction with West Yorkshire Police.
* Undertake inspections based around the MOT tests, at times vehicle examiners maybe called upon to carry out MOT’s and issue certificate for and on behalf of Leeds City Council Fleet Services.
* Prepare information for and attending Court in respect of offences under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and all relative legislation.
* Conduct PSV and permit 19 vehicle tests.
* Maintain appropriate electronic and manual records on tests carried out and notices and inspection reports as may be required.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
* High degree of manual dexterity.
* Knowledge of Motor Vehicle and Construction and Use Regulations.
* Hold a current nominated tester certificate or be in the process of renewing an expired certificate.
* Proficient with MOT computerisation.
* Keep up to date with the DVSA tester Manual and communicate any changes or updates to the vehicle inspection team.
* To be able to communicate in both written and oral technical language.
* Working in a multicultural environment.
Qualifications & Training:
* Appropriate level 3 Motor Vehicle Technician Qualification
* Hold the Dept. of Transport nominated Tester Status
* Hold a full UK driving licence
* A NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification or time served experience
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in a mot tester, mechanic or vehicle technician role
* Fully competent in carrying out all manner of light vehicle repairs on light vehicles and light commercials
* You must have your own tools
If you are an MOT Tester you are required to have at least 6 months experience with a minimum of 100 tests carried out.
Working hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm 40 hours a week
Pay rate £18.26 per hour PAYE In addition you will also accrue holiday pay
