My client is a well-established regional building contractor, that are in the market for a construction Senior Buyer to join the team.

You will have previous experience purchasing construction materials. Providing the best quality and price for construction projects. There schemes range from 2million up to around 15million. Working within a variety of mainstream construction sector, education, industrial and leisure sectors.

The duties of a buyer include:-
• Providing prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings
• Identifying potential suppliers and new products
• Contacting a range of suppliers to obtain quotations
• Keeping detailed records and maintaining well‐organised work schedules
• Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials
• Ensuring compliance with the safety, health and environment requirements of materials and services
• Providing advice to the Project Estimator on the predicted cost of individual items
• Liaising closely with the Estimator at the tendering stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided
• Preparation of pre-start buydown cost schedules for the use of Buyer, Site Manager and Contracts Manager to be utilised and updated throughout the term of the contract
• Preparing and maintaining cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business
• Negotiating and agreeing the most favourable terms possible with suppliers once a contract has been secured
• Fleet management (notifying employees when MOT's, servicing and maintenance are due, dealing with repairs to vehicles prior to return to leasing company, ordering of new company vehicles)
• Ordering of plant and surveying equipment for sites
• Placing of purchase orders on a purchase order processing system (CIS)

Complementary skills to a buyer include:-
• Knowledge and understanding of construction materials
• Good communication skills at all levels of the business
• Strong maths and budgeting abilities
• Negotiation skills.
• Wide knowledge across all construction materials and latest product innovation.
• Good research, networking and interpersonal skills in sourcing materials at the best prices and quantities. A good relationship with specialist suppliers.
• Ability to build positive working relationships within your department and with other departments to achieve the best possible results for the project.
• Great logistical planning, record keeping and admin, time management and scheduling management abilities.
