Job Purpose

We are seeking an enthusiastic apprentice to join our Team at Lucy Electric.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated self-starter who is looking to learn, build their knowledge and work closely with others to make a difference within the manufacturing functions. 

The successful candidate will complete a Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship with the Engineering Trust. They will be trained on the job by the Company and taken on a development journey through the various departments and capabilities of our products within our busy operational teams. The length of the course is 3 years with 10 months at college full time. 

Job Context

This apprenticeship will work on a rotational basis across the business within Lucy Electric; Covering areas such as Operations, Automation, Quality, Engineering, Technical, Maintenance and service, details will be explained upon successful applications, during interviews and upon starting apprentice will receive a detailed training plan. 

We require the successful candidate to be an enthusiastic highly motivated individual keen to gain exposure across all business areas, this is a really exciting apprenticeship for learning and development within a global manufacturing Company.

Job Dimensions

This role will report to the Project Manager and will transition through different teams within Lucy Electric. You will work through the training plan provided by the Engineering Trust and Lucy Electric, this will be invaluable to your personal development. 

You will:

•    Have direct interface with all other members within Lucy Electric 

•    Use of hand vibrating tools and hand tools when required

•    Use and wear PPE when required

•    Regularly lift / move items of 10kg and occasionally up to 25kg within safe lifting guidelines

•    Frequently sit, stand, walk, reach within hands and arm’s length, stoop, kneel and crouch

•    Work in Production areas that have moderate risk and require safety precautions e.g. Operating Machinery, Moving Vehicles, operating Overhead cranes in areas of relative noise

•    Use substances covered under the COSHH regulations

•    Attend customer sites with our service division

•    Regularly produce reports through business systems

Key Accountabilities

These will include:

•    Ensure the safe and efficient performance of every production task in compliance with company procedures, approved engineering data and local Health and Safety requirements. Ensure Safe Systems of Work and risk assessments (assisting as necessary in the completion of risk assessments) are adhered to for engineering or manufacturing activities.

•    Prepare product and process documentation by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends - with support from the Production Engineer/Continuous Improvement (CI) manager.

•    Manage internal and/or Supplier Quality Notifications, and liaison with the required stakeholders for resolution. –  Supported by the QA Dept

•    Liaise with internal and external customers to implement programme initiatives, such as the application of lean analysis methods, processes and tools. – Supported by the CI Manager.

•    Carry out new product introduction and/or existing product modifications within engineering and/or manufacturing by contributing to activities such as facilitation of quality activities (including any testing and/or commissioning requirements), supplier approvals, gate reviews. – Supported by CI Manager and PMO

•    Deliver financial planning or costing analysis such as:- estimation of costs for manufacture, supplying drawings or specification for quotations, obtaining manufacture quotes, calculating costs associated with quality problem or  machine downtime. – Supported by CI Manager/Prod Eng/Technical department

•    Develop new technology initiatives by contributing to activities such as, justifying capital investment equipment/system upgrades from purchase through to installation and commissioning. – Supported by Operations manager and team

•    Produce and maintain reports measuring Key Performance Indicators for data management activities. – Supported by Production manager

•    Ensure processes and current methods of engineering and manufacturing are as efficient and cost effective, such as:- utilising time and motion analysis, line balancing and flow to achieve the required level of production output. – Supported by Production and CI Managers.

•    Liaise with appropriate internal and external stakeholders at all levels to ensure that engineering and manufacturing operations are completed in line with the agreed time scales. Examples of stakeholders could include production managers, production operatives, auditors, suppliers, customers.

•    Ensure work process and outcomes comply with any local, national and or international regulatory or compliance requirements. Such as :- maintain  compliance to regulations (such as Anti Bribery and Corruption, Export Control).

•    Resolve identified engineering and/or manufacturing problems such as:- contributing to the route cause analysis exercise applying appropriate levels of containment and corrective action. – Supported by the QA team

•    Produce engineering and/or manufacturing documentation (such as:- Build Manuals, Standard Operating Instructions/processes, Bill of Materials) to aid and ensure consistent, compliant and cost effective manufacturing processes. – Supported by the Planning manager.

•    Review engineering or manufacturing methods to determine the most effective and economical method whilst meeting drawing/specification requirements -  Supported by the Production Engineer and CI Manager.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

•    We require a minimum of Level 2 functional skills in literacy and numeracy. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3.

•    Good communication skills and the ability to build relationships and support with solutions to problems raised.

•    Driving licence or working towards (or must be in a commutable distance from the office) 

•    Candidates will have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent which includes English and must have an aptitude for Mathematics with a high GCSE grade or ideally an A Level
