ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are looking for a transformational leader to come and join McCain and drive a cultural transformation in our large Scarborough plant that puts Quality at the heart of everything we do. 

Are you a thought leader in food safety and quality? Do you thrive on driving cultural change and achieving excellence? 

Reporting into the Director, Quality and partnering closely with the Plant Manager and their Senior Leadership Team it’s your job to… 

Lead Cultural Transformation: Be a change agent, fostering a culture of accountability and a right-first-time approach to food safety and quality.
Innovate for Continuous Improvement: Implement cutting-edge food safety systems and process controls, driving continuous improvement across the board.
Elevate Sensory Standards: Uphold and advance McCain’s sensory standards, ensuring product superiority and stewardship.
Develop Future Leaders: Invest in people development, succession planning, and engagement to build a high-performing team.
Ensure Rigorous Compliance: Meet and exceed McCain and customer requirements, ensuring audit compliance and best practices.  

Your day to day responsibilities will be to drive a team that provide strategic technical expertise across the plant operation. You will also…

Align closely with the Agriculture team to synchronise food safety and quality efforts.
Manage critical customer relationships and lead new supplier activities.
Own the internal audit process and serve as the site host for customer and regulatory audits.
Oversee product, environment, and material specifications to ensure top-tier standards.Collaborate with R&D and sensory teams to meet sensory requirements and drive innovation.
Identify and address internal technical training needs, ensuring knowledge transfer.
Lead HACCP initiatives, driving food safety and quality improvements.
Act as the site lead for FSQ crisis management and validate product claims.
Deputise for the Director of Food Safety and Quality as needed.

What you’ll bring to the team:

Stellar influencing skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
The ability to work independently and as a collaborative team player.
Deep technical expertise in Quality & Food Safety.
Extensive commercial and plant knowledge.
A comprehensive understanding of food law and external standards (BRC, AIB).
Mastery of Quality & Technical systems and HACCP/TACCP/VACCP principles.
Experience in potato processing or similar technology.
Familiarity with retail standards.
Strong collaborative and business partnering abilities.
A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for innovation.
Exceptional coaching, influencing, and leadership skills.Persistence, resilience, and flexibility.
Strategic thinking focused on achieving customer goals.
A willingness to challenge existing practices and drive systemic improvements in Quality & Food Safety.

WHERE WILL I WORK?

You’ll be based at our Scarborough plant in North Yorkshire. We opened this plant back in the swinging sixties, but it’s not stuck in the past. It’s one of the largest French fry factories in the world and after a recent development, it’s also one of the most high tech. Our team of over 300 colleagues work hard to make sure the quality of our products keep our customers returning for more, for now and years to come!

It's also on the same campus as our GB Head Office, with plenty of opportunity to build relationships with other functions across the business.
